The Six KingdomsMoneran (Bacteria)moneran--a single celled organism, without a nucleus that either "hunt" or produce their own food
This is a real photograph of Enterococcus under a microscope.
The Genus of the first coastal bacteria is called Enterococcus. One Species of Enterococcus is Enterococcus saccharolyticus. The shape of Enterococci is cocci. Enterococci lives in humans and exits a human, through human waste. Enterococcus gets into the coastline through leaks of the sewage pipe, runoffs, etc. Too much Enterococcus can be dangerous for humans to swim in, so if a leak happens and more Enterococcus enters the water, they might have to close the beach down for swimming, because, like I said before, too much Enterococcus is dangerous for humans to swim in.
This is a picture of Vibrio parahaemolyticus
A second monera we will observe is called Vibrio parahaemolyticus. It is curved bacilli in shape. V. parahaemolyticus are found along the coast, in brackish water, primarily in the U.S. and Canada. Vibrio parahaemolyticus are in higher concentration during summer. It is a halophilic, or salt-requireing organism.
Protistsprotist-a mostly single celled (not always), organism that has a nucleus and organellesprotozoan--a simple, animal-like, unicellular organism, with no cell walls, and no chlorophyll
This is picture of Litonotus under a microscope.
The protozoan's name that we will look at is Litonotus marina. It is located in the Gulf of Mexico. Below is a picture of Litonotus marina.algae-- a simple, plant-like, uni- or multi-celled organism with cell walls and chlorophyll
This is a picture of Cafeteria roenbergensis
We will also look at an algae called Cafeteria roenbergensis. It occurs in every ocean and coast in which it has been looked for. The genus Cafeteria was chosen because, when it was observed, the organism appeared to have a voracious appetite. Below is a picture of Cafeteria roenbergensis.Fungi fungus--a multi-celled organism that has no chlorophyll, and absorbs nutrients
